Here comes the sun friends and we better make sure we are ready for it. Gone are the days were we sit outside and bake with baby oil on us. Do you remember those days? I can remember them like they were yesterday. Man when I reflect back on all the stupid things I did as a young adult it can really make me crazy. Of course we did not know all we know now about the dangers of the sun, so I will give myself a little bit of a break. Now a days if you find me in the sun you will always find some type of sunscreen on me. I do try and get 10-15 minutes of sun a day without sunscreen for my vitamin D but I try and not do that during 10-3 when the sun is the strongest.
Now the issue I have with sunscreen is all the chemicals and fragrances they are usually loaded with are so horrid. Trying to find a good natural sunscreen is much easier today than it was a few years ago. The awareness of needing natural ingredients is really starting to take center stage and I love it. Recently I was given a sample of a natural sunscreen to review and I wanted to share with you my thoughts on this product.
The name of the sunscreen is Goddess Garden, Sunny Kids SPF 30. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being off the charts amazing I would give this a 7. This sunscreen for sure fits my requirements in regards to ingredients. The first ingredients listed were aloe vera & shea butter I really liked that. The first ingredients listed on Coopertones is water, sorbitol and aluminum starch octenylsuccinate. What the heck are those anyways?
Goddess Garden’s formulas are all 100% biodegradable and are filled with nourishing organic ingredients. I love the way the company promotes being good for the earth as well as being good for you body. Another thing I loved about the sunscreen was its neutral scent. I do not like putting on sunscreen and smelling like I just put on sunscreen. I also like that it is gluten free, cruelty free, vegan and non-GMO. I know those are not normal things you think of when applying sunscreen but they are things that are important to me. Another thing that was a bonus for me is that they support local farmers. I am very passionate about this and any company that is giving support to local farmers gets and extra point in my book.
In regards to how effective the sunscreen was I would say it was very effective. I put it on one day while at the beach and I did not get red at all. I was only out in the sun for 3.5 hours but that is normally long enough for me to get burned.
Now, what I did not like about the product. The product claims it is sheer but I felt it was very thick and even a little pasty. I had to rub it in for longer than I would have liked. This was kind of a deal kill for me. I will use this because of the chemical free ingredients and because it was very effective but I do not think I would go out and buy it again. I do not want putting on sunscreen to be more work that it needs to be.
I have a few more samples of sunscreen to review so I am hoping there will be one that I can rate an 8+ so I can lather up and get out and enjoy this amazing CA weather we are having. Stay tuned.
