Are you tired of putting those nasty chemicals on your arm pits? Have you ever looked at what is in the deodorant you have in your medicine cabinet? Don’t go rushing off I took a picture of one I found in the back of ours and it isn’t pretty.

Making your own deodorant is actually really easy and kind of fun.  I have tried a lot of different recipes and this seems to be the one I am happiest with. Some people can have a reaction to the baking soda so I tried to minimize it as much as I could by using more arrowroot powder. You can get the arrowroot at most health food stores in the bulk section. The beeswax in the recipe helps keep the cream together. Coconut oil as most of you know melts at room temperature so the beeswax helps bind it together. Although please note that this is not going to be like your commercial deodorants, it is much creamier. You buy the beeswax pellets on Amazon.

You can store your homemade deodarant two ways: 1)You can put it in a small mason jar and use your fingers to apply it. I like this way but Mike does not. I just scoop a little out right after I get out of the shower and rub it under my arms. It goes on smooth and will not stain your clothes I promise. Mike likes me to put his in old deodorant containers. This is easy to do. Just take some of your old containers and clean them out. Swivel the base down to the bottom and then fill it with your new good for you creation.

I like to use tea tree and lavender as my essential oils because they both offer antimicrobial properties, and the tea tree oil kills bacteria. Tea tree is not really great smelling so this is why I add a tad more of the lavender.

It might take you a few times but I promise you once you get the hang of it you will never by that store bought cr**p again.

All in the Balance Homemade Deodorant

1/4 cup arrowroot powder
1/8 cup baking soda
3 Tbsp coconut oil
1 Tbsp grated beeswax
5 drops tea tree oil
7 drops of some other lavender essential oil

In a double broiler over medium heat melt your coconut oil and beeswax pellets. The pellets seem to take forever to melt so be patient. Once they are melted take it off the heat.

Next add in the rest of your ingredients and blend well. Make sure you stir it till it is creamy with no chunks. Next if you are putting it in a mason jar just go ahead and spoon it in and you are done. I use the little tiny mason jars. I buy my jars on Amazon. (man I give Amazon a lot of business)If you are using an old deodorant container I like to spray the empty container with a little olive or coconut oil spray first, then add your deodorant into the container. Please make sure you have the base swiveled all the way down before you add your cream. DUH I know but I did not the first time so I don’t want you to make the same ding dong mistake.

Hope you try this. Please let me know if you do and how you like it.
