Do you ever clean your yoga mat? Ok I have got to be honest, I went way too long and I mean WAY TOO LONG without cleaning my yoga mat. Truthfully I did not know you were even suppose to clean them. I never really sweat bad on it before because I used it just for stretching but ewe knowing now what I know, ewe, ewe, ewe. I recently reintroduced yoga into my life and lets just stay- I AM SWEATING all over this thing now. I set out to find out how to clean my yoga mat without chemicals. The great thing is now that I know the power of essential oils I am all over cleaning this baby after every use. Trust me it might sound extreme but I sweat a lot and these mats hold on to every germ available. This spray can be used in your car, on your weight equipment, at the gym before you touch all that icky germ infected equipment, and most importantly on that mat you sweat on each time you do a yoga session.
Yoga Mat Cleaner
I mix up a double batch of this. I use a recycled spray bottle.
Add 2 oz ( 60 ml) of water- preferably distilled or filtered
Add 20 drops of Lavender Essential Oil-Lavandula angustifolia. Lavender not only smells fabulous it is also a wonderful oil that is very antiseptic.
Add 15 drops of drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil-Melaleuca alternifolia. Tea Tree is a fantastic oil to use because it is antimicrobial, antiviral and antibacterial.
Add 5 drops of Frankincense Essential Oil-Boswellia carterii. Frankincense helps my breathing while working out. It helps me stay grounded and in the moment.
Add 5 drops of Rosemary Essential Oil- Rosmarinus officinalis ct. camphor. Rosemary helps me keep my mind focused and on my workout.
Optional to add Sweet Orange Essential Oil-Citrus sinensis. Sweet Orange is refreshing and energizing to the soul.
Today I did a very challenging PiYo workout. Lets just say I did a double cleaning.
Be good to your body inside and out. Chemicals do damage!
