Oh how I love me some Clary Sage.  This amazing oil has literally saved me during my “hot flash” time of life. Clary sage is an oil that holds many different properties. The properties are: antidepressant, anticonvulsive, antispasmodic, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, astringent, bactericidal, carminative, deodorant, digestive, emenagogue, euphoric, hypotensive, nervine, and act as a sedative.  Now I know if you were like me a year ago you are thinking “SAY WHAT?” I seriously did not understand these properties until about 2-3 months into my clinical training. Now I am like “Dang this oil rocks” Let me break it down a little for you. I have to be very careful how I word things when it comes to me telling you about these essential oils. Sadly because some of the multi level marketing companies out there (the ones you see all over the internet) have made some crazy claims and shared some very unsafe practices about how you use essential oils the FDA is now cracking down on everyone. I do not want to get into all of this negative stuff but just know this, I went to school and studied for over a year so I can share with you honest, safe practices when using essential oils. The information I am providing you is all from research I have studied in my certification program. Of course please note that everyone reacts differently to essential oils and I can not make any claim that everyone will have the same benefits.

Antidepressant-It can be systematically administered to patients suffering from acute depression who are undergoing rehabilitation.
Anticonvulsive- It can bring about peace of mind and acts as a sedative for tense nerves.
Antidspasmodic-It can relax the nerve impulses and  thus wont allow uncontrollable spasms to occur.
Antiseptic- Historically the oil has been  shown to kill bacteria and fungi, curb growth and the spread of bacterial infections, and also protect against new infections. Some studies have shown that Clary Sage  can be beneficial in curing bacterial infections affecting the colon, intestines, urinary tract, and excretory system.
Aphrodisiac- Studies have shown Clary Sage Essential Oil can boost libido and feelings of sexual desire. It is very effective in treating frigidity, psychological problems resulting in loss of libido, and even impotency. Studies have shown it to be equally effective in males and females. It affects the hormones of the body and increases testosterone levels, which can seriously increase performance and interest in sexual activities. ( who is all over this oil? wink wink)
Carminative-  Research studies have proven that Clary Sage can help eliminate your gas as quickly as a needle empties a balloon! Can you visualize this one? That is, it will eliminate excess gas in your body through flatulence, which will reduce the sensation of being bloated. Hey whatever works right?
Emmenagogue- It can help with irregular, or painful menses. It does this by simply stimulating the opening of obstructed menses, and makes them regular, while easing pain. It also cures dizziness and mental irritation during menses as well as in cases of Post Menopause Syndrome. Furthermore, it can help reduce the symptoms and negative effects associated with menstruation like cramping, bloating, mood swings, and cravings for food by balancing the hormones that run rampant during this time for women. This oil is a must for all women in my book. The only women that would not want to use this is a women that was pregnant.
Euphoric-This oil is one of my favorite go to oils when dealing with mood symptoms. Clary Sage Essential Oil can induce a feeling of immense joy, confidence, pleasure and high spirits and fill you with the desire to live your life to the fullest. If I have a client that is dealing with depression, stress or anxiety you can be promised this oil will be in the blend. I love this one in my diffuser.
Hypotensive- Hypotensive is the antonym of Hypertensive. Studies have shown Clary Sage oil to be very effective in reducing blood pressure by relaxing the veins and arteries, thereby reducing the risk of heart attacks, strokes, atherosclerosis, and brain hemorrhaging. By reducing blood pressure, it also widens the blood vessels and allows for increased circulation, resulting in increased oxygenation to the muscles and organ systems, boosting their performance and your overall metabolic performance.

Ok are you convinced yet that this is an oil you should have in your home? I love love love the aroma and all the amazing properties of this essential oil.

The botanical name for Clary Sage is Salvia Sclarea. Clary Sage Essential Oil is extracted by steam distillation from the buds and leaves of the Clary Sage plant. It is an herb, believed to be a native species of Europe, which has been highly praised as a medicinal plant throughout history, particularly owing to its numerous benefits for vision and eye health. It is a close relative of common garden sage, but it has a slightly different organic makeup. This herb has beautiful pale blue, violent pink and white flowers when in bloom.

The oil it self is normally colorless but sometimes might have a very pale yellow color. The name comes from “clarus” which means to clear. I love the definition of this oil, when I apply clary sage I always think about what it means. It might be to clear my hot flashes out of my body, or it might mean to clear my negative emotions from my mind or to clear away any anxiety. I use this oil in my SOS Hormone Help Blend, and it is in the Deep Peace Blend we carry.

The aroma of clary sage is beautiful I feel it is a little nutty and earthy at the same time.

Clary Sage anyone?
